Come Racing With Brian
For those of you who want to do some racing this Fall, our Rowing Director, Brian Brunelle has compiled a list of area regattas that have a great reputation. He has been going to some of these himself for years. Now he wants you to come along! Here’s your chance to break the mental barriers and get started or if you’re already racing you can improve your times under the watchful eye of a seasoned expert. You won’t get a better chance. Brian has put the list of races (see below) up by the log book. If you want to participate, just put your name down and what boat you would like to race. (If you need a team mate just put in your name and Brian will help you find one) If needed, Brian will even drive the club trailer with boats and oars. All you need to do is show up.
Why race?
- Competing is fun.
- Make great new friends from around the country who share the passion.
- Racing allows you to push yourself in a way that no training piece can do.
- It gets the ARC name out in the public eye
- If enough of us do it we will develop a reputation of being a tough team to beat.
- It also allows to you wear a uni in public without getting weird looks.
- Even rowing up to the start line is a rush. All those endorphins are the best drug ever!
- You’ll see that rowing is a huge sport and a lot happens outside our 5 miles of river.
Right now you are asking yourself, “Am I ready to race?”. The answer is no. You never feel ready. You could always be a little more fit of have a little more time in the boat. You can train and row hard every day and never "feel" ready. You have to approach it like the children who say, "ready or not here I come!" The best answer is to pick a handful of races and go and compete. The more you race the more you learn about racing and yourself.
