Summer 2011 Rowing Programs

Summary:
ARC provides these programs to grow its membership and provide a high quality rowing program to the Southern New Hampshire region. For 2011, ARC will provide 3 different times for Master Learn to Row, expand the masters sweep program, create a more organized Junior competitive program and continue the high quality Junior learn to row instruction.

Masters Learn to Row (MLTR):

Time & Dates: 3 days a week, Mon/Wed/Fri
  • 0530-0730-May 28-July 08 (extra week due to holidays)
  • 0530-0730-July 11- Aug 19
  • 0800-1000-July 11-Aug 19
Class Size: Max of 18 and Min of 6
Cost: $250.00
Class Objectives: In a fun, safe atmosphere to teach the student to be able to row confidently on their own.
Process: Start out in sweep boats to teach basic stroke and continually move in smaller boats until students can row in single.

Master Sweep:

Time & Dates: 2 days a week, Tues/Thurs
  • 1800-2000- June 21-Aug-25
  • Proposed to continue in the morning in the fall
Class Size: Max of 18 and Min of 5
Cost: $50.00 for members ($100 for non-members)
Class Objectives:
  1. Use team boats to get members together more. Create a club atmosphere.
  2. Produce a competitive men’s and women’s four who will race in locally in summer and fall.
Process: Start out in eights with drills and steady state. Identify competitive rowers. Transition into fours as competition nears.

Master Sculling:

Time & Dates: June 07- Nov 15, 2 days a week Tues/Thurs 0530-0730
Class Size: max of 12 min of 4
Cost: included in dues
Class Objectives:
  1. Tuesday Morning will be geared to a high performance and race prep coaching.
  2. Thursday mornings will be geared to rowing fundamentals.
Process: Tuesday morning will be using drills and fun workouts to simulate race experience and slowly bring the demands of a race into the workouts. Thursday morning will focus more on technical aspect of the stroke through a series of drills and steady state exercises.

Junior Learn to Row (JLTR):

Time & Dates: 0630-0830 June 20-Aug 12 (3 days a week Tues/Wed/Fri)
Class Size: Max of 32 and Min of 10
Cost: $250.00
Class Objectives:
  1. Teach the fundamentals of the rowing stroke in a safe atmosphere.
  2. Have each rowing learn something new each day and have fun doing it.
  3. Rowing all eight with feather.
Process: While rowing in an eight, slowly increasing increments of the stroke cycle with drills.

Junior Competitive Rowing (camp):

Time & Dates: 0600-0800 June 20-Aug 12 (5 days a week Mon-Fri)
Class Size: Max of 38 and Min of 10
Cost: $350.00
Class Objectives:
  1. Prepare for local racing
  2. Indentify boat line-ups
  3. Compete in local regattas
  4. Train for sprint races
Process: train with drill specifically designed with racing in mind. Seat racing to determine line-ups. Races: 1. Methuen City Sprints 7/23 2. TBA

Junior Sculling Camp (Jscull):

Time & Dates: 0800-1000 5 days a week
Camp A: June 27-July 8
Camp B: July 11- July 22
Class Size: Max of 12 and Min of 6
Cost: $100.00
Class Objectives:
  1. Introduce Juniors to sculling
  2. Create interest in sculling to form future ARC junior program
Process: Starting off in team boats and gradually moving into smaller boats until rower is comfortable in singe. Focus on correct stroke and movement with drills.
